This story flew around the Fever Swamps™ like a bad illness when it was first reported. It went along the lines of: Overly politically correct ESPN banned an announcer from a game simply because he shared a name with infamous traitor General Robert E. Lee. State Rep. Lori Saine (R-Firestone) bought it.
A few years ago I ran across what had become an inside joke among liberal political bloggers. Basically, if you are looking for an explanation for GOP actions and behaviors that don’t make sense through a political lens, you should look to Cleek’s Law:
If you haven’t seen it, the GOP and Jeff Hunt, the anti-LGBT bigot who runs the Centennial Institute these days, made a dance video to promote the 2017 Western Conservative Summit. That’s the yearly meeting where “conservatives” get together and preach to the choir about their “economic anxiety” and promote their irrational fear of the “other”.
Despite wading through the Fever Swamps™ on a daily basis, sometimes even I am caught off guard by the overt, disgusting racism openly displayed by some members of the Colorado Republican Party.
If you read my columns, then you are probably familiar with Casper Stockham. He’s the former GOP congressional candidate who regularly posts 100% fake news on his Facebook wall and calls anyone who disagrees with him a racist.
Raymond Garcia is the man the GOP trots out every other year to be a sacrificial lamb in the race for state House District 1. He’s a big advocate of the police, as you can see here from a Facebook post a while back:

This post is about one individual, but I must preface it by saying that the former GOP legislator Shawn Mitchell is not the only one. Since support for LGBTQ causes has risen to the point where it would be foolish to admit bigotry, conservatives have pivoted to attacking the one group they still feel it is OK to ridicule: Transgender Americans (especially children).
You might remember El Paso County Republican Party Vice Chair Joshua Hosler as the guy who got beat out by now state Rep. Dave Williams in a Republican primary for state Rep. Gordon “Dr. Chaps” Klingenschmitt’s abandoned seat.
