This year in the lead-up to November’s midterm elections, prominent oil and gas and pharmaceutical companies mostly donated to Republican politicians and conservative-leaning groups, according to an analysis of state and federal campaign finance records by the Colorado Times Recorder. In Colorado, the Democratic party has held control of the Governor’s office and both chambers of the state legislature since 2018.

As members of Congress negotiate a bill focusing on driving down prescription drug costs, data from Open Secrets, a nonpartisan research group, shows that lobbying and ad spending from the pharmaceutical industry in 2022 surpassed $100 million last week.
The pharmaceutical industry spent over $1.4 million in Colorado during the state’s 2021 legislative session, which wrapped up in June. Big Pharma’s spending outpaced the oil & gas industry, the insurance industry, and other big lobbying clients during that time span.
