After being fired from KNUS 710-AM last month for joking that a “nice school shooting” would be a welcome antidote to the “never ending impeachment of Donald Trump,” Denver radio host Chuck Bonniwell, along with his co-host Julie Hayden, is launching a podcast Wednesday.
“We are excited to be joining the podcast world with the launch of the Chuck and Julie Show this Wednesday, January 8th,” tweeted the conservative co-hosts Sunday.
“The show will be a live internet call-in talk show providing thought provoking information, conversation, and entertainment,” according to the show’s page on BBS Radio.
It will air Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Denver time.
“They are dedicated to free speech and critical thinking and any and all opinions are welcome,” states the show’s page. “If you want the truth straight up and enjoy passionate debate this is the show for you.”
At KNUS, the Chuck and Julie Show developed a loyal following among Trump voters in Colorado. Bonniwell and Hayden would regularly criticize not only Democrats but the Republican establishment.
For example, Bonniwell expressed his disapproval of the “effeminate country club Republicanism” of Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO).
BBS Radio’s “Chuck and Julie Show” page doesn’t mention that the previous iteration of the show on KNUS 710-AM was canceled.
The pair, who are married, never issued a full apology for the nice-school-shooting joke, which was was reported by many of the top media outlets in the U.S., after first appearing on the Colorado Times Recorder.
Bonniwell’s first public comment was: “I made an inappropriate comment meant as a joke. I’m sorry it was not received that way.”
Later, the hosts went on to express more actual regret about the school shooting comment, tweeting that it was “inappropriate” and that Bonniwell wished he could “un-say it.”
“Violence causes too much hurt to victims and their families and we truly did not intend to add to that pain,” they stated on Twitter Dec. 19. “We have covered every school shooting and tragedy since Columbine and witnessed the unbearable pain and grief felt by the victims, families and community.”
Bonniwell is the publisher of the Glendale/Cherry Creek Chronicle, and Hayden is a former Fox 31 Denver TV reporter who now works at the Chronicle.
