Enough to be
up early this grand morning
following the Bright Angel Trail
of a dozen or so meteors

The Quadrantids!

Nature’s fireworks
playing ring-around-the-rosie
with Arcturus & the Big Dipper

But more than just seeing
I feel this urge to sing
so I start a litany
chanting
LaChapelle’s honor song
over & over
to my hundred-handed friends
& family of inlaws & outlaws

Holding each flash dear
as it sparks to my song

Celebrating the gift of
the beloveds’ passionate memories
warmer on this cold night
than jackets or blankets or gloves

Warmer
than community kudos or 401(k)s
Than privilege’s amenities or
Facebook encomiums

Each streak a name
illuminating the dark
sky
