With a week until Election Day, the Colorado state Senate is looking like the Republican Party’s best chance to gain control of any part of Colorado government, as the Democratic Party is expected to retain the Governor’s office and keep its majority in the House of Representatives. Redistricting after the 2020 census benefitted Republicans in state Senate races, according to members of both parties.
In his race for the state Senate, Tom Sullivan, who first ran for the state legislature after his son was killed in the Aurora Theater massacre and has made gun safety a top priority ever since, faces a Republican opponent, Tom Kim, who received an “A” rating from the National Rifle Association (NRA) and appears to oppose the basic gun safety measures Sullivan has pushed into Colorado law.
Centennial businessman and former lawyer Tom Kim kicked off his campaign for state senate last night, the second Republican to announce a run to represent District 27. The newly drawn boundaries remain almost entirely in Arapahoe County and will encompass about half of Centennial and a chunk of Aurora.
