It appears Donald Trump will visit Aurora after all. According to Colorado GOP Director of Special Initiatives Darcy Schoening, the former president is scheduled to speak this Friday afternoon at 1pm at the Gaylord Rockies Resort. The venue, which also has a convention center, is located just outside of the Denver International Airport and technically within the boundaries of the City of Aurora.
Trump announced his intention to come to Aurora nearly three weeks ago while giving an anti-immigrant campaign speech in New York. He has referenced the city multiple times, including during his Sept. 10 debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, at which he repeated false claims about Venezuelan gang members “taking over” the city. Those unfounded stories have since been denied by Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman and other city leaders.
The Republican National Committee did not immediately respond to a request for comment. This article will be updated with any response received.
Trump last visited Colorado in August, appearing at a high-dollar fundraiser in Aspen during which he also railed against migrants.
This is a developing story that will be updated as needed.
