Colorado’s Service Employee International Union (SEIU) Local 105, a workers union for Kaiser Permanente, one of the largest medical care companies in the United States, gave its 10-day notice of a strike on September 22 with the intent to strike tomorrow.

There are over 3,000 SEIU Local 105 workers in Colorado representing various types of health care workers and that currently serve over half a million Coloradans.

The union is asking people to join the picket line to support the workers.

Kaiser’s website lists its locations in Colorado that will be closed, or partially closed, during the strike.

The strike comes after the expiration of the workers’ contract with Kaiser, and the Union, which is demanding better benefits for its workers and that Kaiser address the issues of understaffing and poor retention rates.

The union plans to strike for three days, until October 7. A deal appears unlikely as both parties seem far apart in negotiations, but outside pressures from state and federal officials could change the course of the strike if they choose to intervene.
