What if it turns out
That the only ones cheating in the 2020 presidential election
Were members of the Republican Party?

Two women glide by on rollerblades conversing
asphalt resists they push away a gentle judo
music rippling from their speaker
north breeze insisting on the rule
that no molecule be still
languid light drifting from shadow to sun
breathe swell pulse
no cars thank god no cars
bikes zero cycle engines pumping
trillion cycle engines humming a nurturing purr
a runner pads by
a rainbow flag
speaks a peace out of character for this the shuddering city
this intimacy
more life than entertainment
cost lower benefit greater
no one will be impressed.

Scene:

Man sitting on a bench, looking toward the sailboats moored in the harbor, middle aged, balding, solid, pastel plaid short-sleeved collared shirt, woven nylon bag by his side, cell phone to his ear. It’s a beautiful day.
