State Rep. Dave Williams, a Republican from Colorado Springs, is well known for his unfriendly attitude toward undocumented immigrants.
Earlier this year, Williams sponsored a bill that received national attention that would have punished government officials who implement sanctuary city policies. Under Williams’ bill, such officials would have been charged with a class 4 felony for “rendering assistance to an illegal alien.” It also would have allowed the victim of a crime committed by an undocumented immigrant within the sanctuary jurisdiction to sue officials for nearly $2 million.
The bill failed, but now Williams is unleashing criticism not just on immigrants who are here illegally, but on the nation’s immigrant population as a whole. Williams recently retweeted this quote from Ann Coulter in which she writes that immigrants are hard-working in that they steal from the government and destroy American lives.
In a more broadly xenophobic tweet posted just a few minutes later, Williams implied that there’s inherent inequality between cultures, calling the “results” of different cultures “grossly unequal.” He did not, however, clarify the cultures to which he was referring.
