I pick on Raymond Garcia (R – Colorado) a lot because he comes across as more of an internet troll than an actual GOP candidate for the Colorado State Legislature.
Back in June, Trump somewhat infamously retweeted this set of graphs that supposedly show what a disaster the last 7 1/2 years have been. Also back in June, numerous fact-checkers rated almost all the claims false or misleading. Philip Bump of the Washington post probably did the best job providing context and chasing down the genesis of the graphs.
Garcia clearly lives in a closed loop of confirmation bias. People with credibility and integrity—especially those running for office—owe it to their potential constituents to check the veracity of their claims before they make them. Not only is it ethical and principled—it keeps them from looking like a fool on the internet.
