In U.S. Rep. Gabe Evans’ (R-CO) congressional district, high demand has forced the Weld County Food Bank to cut back on how much food it gives to families in need. On top of that, the Republicans’ Big Beautiful Bill is sending more people to food banks — with even more expected to arrive at the doors of the Weld facility in the coming year.
Gabe Evans is making a habit of staging photo ops at businesses in his district, claiming he’s championing them in Congress. But Evans’ eight votes in favor of Trump’s tariffs, among other priorities of the president, have hurt or disrupted the industries Evans says he’s helping.
“Last year, Medicaid was just another word to me,” said Thomas (TJ) Buckley, after explaining to a small crowd in Northglenn how he’d been blindsided by a horrible disease that he’s been able to fight thanks to Medicaid, a federal health insurance program for low-income people. “I hope none of you ever have to learn why Medicaid truly matters the way I did. Today it means something entirely different. It means another appointment kept, another treatment received, another chance to plan for the future, another holiday celebrated with friends and family, another ordinary day that suddenly doesn’t feel so ordinary anymore.”
Last week, right-wing radio host Jeff Hunt topped off a sililoquy of damnations of 9News anchor Kyle Clark with something unusual. He condemned Clark’s coverage of a Democrat, not of a Republican, saying that Clark wastes his time and ours bringing up minor and irrelevant nitpicks instead of being “serious” and addressing the “problems that we’re facing.”
Advertisements and voter outreach efforts continue to ramp up ahead of next month’s primary election, as candidates statewide are working to reach as many voters as they can — particularly young voters, who have become an increasingly influential bloc in both national and Colorado politics.
When he was running for Congress in 2024, Gabe Evans said that if elected, it would be his “mission” to stop the “scourge of fentanyl.”
Following the Colorado Times Recorder’s investigation into nine previously unknown ICE detention facilities across the state, activists have organized a daily sit-in at one of the sites in Fredrick. FRDHOLD, as the hold room is referred to by DHS and ICE, was the second most used of the Colorado facilities, with more than 500 individuals held at the site from January to October 2025.
Last week, those of us here at the Colorado Times Recorder reported a bombshell scoop: ICE, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, has held detainees, including children, at a network of nine undisclosed detention facilities called hold rooms. The hold rooms are often located in ICE or other Department of Homeland Security substations which have not been declared as detention facilities. Located in strip malls and office parks around the state, many of the hold rooms have detained people for weeks at a time, never disclosing to neighboring businesses or residents that the locations are being used for detention.
Community members and local Democratic officials gathered in front of Rep. Gabe Evans (R-Fort Lupton) Northglenn office today, urging the congressman to oppose a budget resolution spearheaded by House Republicans that would drastically scale back Medicaid.
