Luis Rivas never made it home from his trip to Walmart last June. The 60-year-old father and businessman who had spent the last 18 years building a life, a family, and a company in the Roaring Fork Valley was approached in the parking lot by Garfield County Sheriff’s Office deputies while he ran errands. Soon, he was in handcuffs.
Congressman Gabe Evans (R-CO) made a rare public appearance today, holding a press conference in support of President Donald Trump’s budget bill. Evans, who cast a deciding vote in favor Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” (It passed 215-214), was flanked by four other GOP officials: U.S. Rep Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Weld Sheriff Steve Reams, state Sen. Byron Pelton (R-Sterling) and state Rep. Carlos Barron (R-Fort Lupton).
The Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade, has had the unintended consequence of potentially turning federal elections into referenda on abortion. Without the federal protections of Roe, a future Republican majority could pass a national abortion ban.
Last week, during a congressional budget hearing about investing in children and schools, Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Bobert launched her comments, during her allotted time to speak, with, “Mr. Chairman, let’s just come out swinging. Democrats in Congress are a joke. Leftist policies have led to an invasion of our southern border, massive inflation, historically high gas prices, and so much more.”
