Alarm bells have rung in the halls of power as vibrant, progressive candidates have swept Democratic primaries in recent weeks. Now, members of the center-left political establishment, desperate to cling to the sclerotic approach which has driven the Democratic Party to its electoral nadir, are joining hands with Republicans to decry the upstart winners as an existential threat.
In the 13 months since the Democratic Party reached its modern electoral low point in the 2024 Presidential election, a crowd of centrist Democratic consultants have proclaimed that they have a simple answer to the party’s woes: abandon support for transgender rights. “It’s what the polling says,” they insist while ignoring everything the polling says about the economy. “It’s just too extreme,” they say, as if that’s a normal way to frame a discussion of human rights.
Voters surprised the entire country on November 8, and upsets piled up in Colorado as well. The Colorado Times Recorder interviewed two Democratic state House candidates — widely considered the deepest of underdogs — about their unexpected wins.
The rally began with a preemptive apology: Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) wouldn’t have time to do her customary post-rally selfie session; she had to rush to catch a plane to South Carolina ahead of next week’s primary.
