CO Springs Teachers Strike for First Time Since 1975
Teachers in Colorado Springs School District 11 took part in a one-day strike yesterday, picketing at 34 schools in the city’s third-largest school district and ending with a rally in Acacia Park. The strike comes in response to last year’s decision by the majority-conservative board not to renew the district’s longstanding contract with the teachers union, the Colorado Springs Education Association (CSEA), and in response to recent decisions by the board, including adoption of policies targeting transgender students and the decision to spend $500,000 on an outside marketing consultant.

Teachers Tease Strike at CO Springs Labor Day Event
Hundreds of protesters lined the sidewalk in front of Colorado Springs City Hall this Labor Day as part of the Workers over Billionaires rally organized by 50501 Colorado Springs, Indivisible Colorado Springs, and El Paso County Progressive Vets. Among the speakers were local members of labor unions, including teachers who referenced an upcoming strike in Colorado Springs School District 11.

This is a new move for the district, which has not utilized legal counsel during the annual IBB sessions in the past.
