In U.S. Rep. Gabe Evans’ (R-CO) congressional district, high demand has forced the Weld County Food Bank to cut back on how much food it gives to families in need. On top of that, the Republicans’ Big Beautiful Bill is sending more people to food banks — with even more expected to arrive at the doors of the Weld facility in the coming year.
Colorado’s November ballot is almost finalized. As of today, ten initiatives are set to bulk up the ballots Coloradans will cast this fall. While those initiatives might look like unrelated efforts by groups of concerned citizens, in reality most of them have been sponsored and funded by billionaire-backed right-wing organization Advance Colorado, which specializes in using Colorado’s ballot process to change state laws in ways the Democratic-majority legislature would not. Soon, they will start the process of trying to trick voters into supporting them.

For the second time this summer, a local Republican activist, campaign worker and former candidate has been arrested and charged with multiple child sex felonies. Last week agents with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation arrested Gage Montoya, of Trinidad, on multiple child pornography and weapons charges. This happened about three months after Weld GOP Chair Hunter Rivera’s arrest in May for attempted sexual assault on a child and three other related felonies.
Earlier this week, Colorado Springs School District 49 voted to officially dissolve Education ReEnvisioned BOCES (ERBOCES), after growing scrutiny by state education officials who raised concerns about the constitution of the board, invalid contracts, and the use of public funds. The entity is one of many boards of cooperative educational services, or BOCES, in Colorado, which are public educational organizations designed to help school districts many of which but not all are in rural areas, share costs and management of special education instruction, expensive technology, grants, and other aspects of a public school district that would be unattainable without pooling resources. And while homeschooled students could access those programs, ERBOCES’ aggressive push to market its services to the homeschool community eventually led to legislative action.
