Earlier this month, Denver Coroner Dr. James Caruso traveled to Peru to examine the allegedly “alien” Nazca mummies. Caruso was part of a team of American scientists who held an April 4 press conference in Nazca, Peru. Joining Caruso was Dr. John McDowell, a forensic odontologist and retired professor at the University of Colorado who volunteers as a consultant with the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner, and William Rodriguez, a forensic anthropologist for the Maryland State Medical Examiner.

The 2024 Colorado Republican State Assembly in Pueblo this weekend showcased the priorities of the party heading into the November election — banning gender-affirming care for trans people, continuing to deny the validity of the 2020 election, downplaying the Jan. 6 insurrection, antagonism toward migrants and immigration, and full-throated support for former President Donald Trump. The keynote speakers for the event included Christina Bobb, the former Trump lawyer and subject of a Department of Justice investigation into obstruction of justice connected to Trump’s handling of classified documents, and U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who is currently under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for alleged sexual misconduct with an underage girl.

Dems Aim To Stop Black Women From Dying When They Give Birth
Last week, the Colorado Legislature’s Senate Health and Human Services Committee passed Senate Bill 24-175, which aims to improve perinatal health outcomes, especially in Black and historically marginalized communities by requiring large employer health benefit plans to cover doula services in alignment with Medicaid. The bill would also instruct hospitals that provide labor and delivery or neonatal care services to participate in at least one maternal or infant health quality improvement initiative.

Co Springs School District Hires Conservative Law Firm to Fight Union
With its teachers union contract up for renewal, Colorado Springs School District 11 (D11) has spent $118,000 on attaining additional legal counsel and communications support for upcoming interest-based bargaining (IBB) sessions with the Colorado Springs Education Association (CSEA). This is a new move for the district, which has not utilized legal counsel during the annual IBB sessions in the past.
