Supreme Court Issues One-Week Stay on New Ruling Banning Medication Abortion by Mail
On Friday, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ordered the Food and Drug Administration to temporarily reimpose in-person requirements for medication abortion. This banned the use of telehealth appointments for the purposes of medication abortion, and the mailing of one of the drugs used in medication abortion, mifepristone. Today, conservative Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, acting as Circuit Justice, issued an administrative stay of the Fifth Circuit’s ruling.

CO Bill to Expand Medication Abortion that Opponents Say Leads to ‘Drinking People’s Abortions’
This week Colorado’s House Education Committee will hear a new bill to expand access to medication abortion on college campuses. Sponsored by Rep. Lorena Garcia (D-Denver), Rep. Kenny Nguyen (D-Broomfield) and Sen. Katie Wallace (D-Longmont), House Bill 1335 would require colleges that operate a student health center to provide on-site abortion medication services, require those colleges pharmacies to maintain a stock of abortion medication or submit a prescription for abortion medication to a pharmacy located off-campus. The bill does have an exemption for colleges with “bona fide religious beliefs or practices.”

Activists, Attorneys, Legislators Respond to Conversion Therapy Decision
On Tuesday, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 8-1 that Colorado’s ban on conversion therapy for minors likely violates the First Amendment rights of counselors by restricting “viewpoint-based” talk therapy. The case was brought by Kaley Chiles, a Colorado Springs-based Christian counselor who was represented by conservative legal advocacy organization Alliance Defending Freedom.
