Do you think Trump voters would respond to a billboard that states, “Newspaper Seeks Betrayed Trump Voters. Contact [email protected]?”
We thought so, but not a single betrayed Trump voter has contacted us in response to our billboard in Greeley.
But we’re not giving up; we want to tell the stories of Colorado’s betrayed Trump voters, whether they are Democrats or Republicans.
We think our billboard, unveiled during the first week of June, is a step in the right direction toward airing these stories and the issues involved.
We got a bunch of responses to our social media posts about the billboard.
These responses can be divided into 10 categories.
We Don’t Feel Betrayed by Trump.
This group of responders was inspired to write that Trump didn’t betray them.
“You would have more success looking for the lochness monster.”
“The only people who are betraying our country are the Demon-crats.”
“I voted for my President three times and have NEVER felt betrayed!!”
Betrayed Trump Voters Do Not Exist.
According to these commenters, our billboard is a fool’s errand; There are no betrayed Trump voters out there.
“If you think the MAGAT core of gun kooks, christofascists, misogynists, homophobes, neo-Nazis, or those reading at a 6th-grade level are suddenly becoming enlightened citizens, you are surely mistaken.”
“Those same boneheads convinced themselves Kamala Harris was a communist who would force everyone to become trans. … Call a spot do-over election today — same candidates: Harris v. Trump again! — even with these last two years under their belts, these lunatics are STILL gonna vote for Trump!
“As long as the Republican candidate is racist, hateful, and white, they’ll vote for them.”
“They Are Too Stupid To Know They Were Betrayed.”
These responders don’t believe Trump voters think clearly enough to feel betrayed.
“And therein lies the problem. They are too stupid to know they were betrayed.”
“They will still vote for stupid shit. You can’t fix stupid.”
“It is hard to get Trump cultists to talk openly; you may have to deprogram a few. Most are illiterate, knowing nothing other than what right-wing social media tells them. They know life is harder, but they think it’s the Dems fault still. They don’t even know that their fools control both houses.”
“Trump voters aren’t smart enough to reflect. They just believe what he tells them.”
Far From Betrayed, We Still Love Trump.
The largest number of commentators used the billboard’s request as an opportunity to double down on their support for Trump.
“Not so much. I freaking love him!!”
“God Bless #MrPresidentTrump!

“I voted 3x for DJT … Everybody I know voted for him.. Every dem voter I know has changed to Republican. I have never met or even heard of a Trump supporter swap parties. Your rage is on the wrong side of history here.”
Trump Voters Won’t Tell You If They Feel Betrayed
“If you had thrown anonymous on there, you might have more.”
Don’t Forgive Trump Voters.
A few commenters made it clear they will not forgive Trump voters, even if Trump voters say they were betrayed.
“I’m fine to hear their stories, but don’t ask us to forgive them. Guarantee they’d still vote R. … These people don’t think logically. They don’t understand basic civics and how it’s all tied together and how all Rs do Trump’s bidding so they’ll check the R box.”
Sympathy for Trump Voters
Some expressed sympathy toward Trump voters and wrote that some might feel betrayed.
“Many people don’t have time for politics. They learn more about an issue or a candidate as time goes on. It doesn’t mean they are stupid or even mean. Not saying everyone is that way, but some.”
“If we ever want people to leave [the Republican Party], we’ve gotta provide it at least allow off-ramps that aren’t full of angry mobs and tire spikes.”
“I think Colorado Republicans have been pretty insulated from the worst of it because they live in a net positive state, which is a surplus to the government, not a negative. I would suspect farmers would be the most likely population to interview. Their entire industry has experienced the Trump economy. I would think it would be hard for them to be insulated too.” [Editor’s note: Some farmers do indeed feel betrayed, at least according to this June 19 Washington Post article which lists their reasons as higher fuel and fertilizer costs, tariffs, and the screwworm outbreak.]
A Co-Worker Told Me He “Regretted His Vote” for Trump
This was the closest we got to finding an actual betrayed Trump voter.
“I have had one coworker tell me he regretted his vote. He wanted lower gas prices and no tax of overtime. He said he didn’t know how bad the Epstein files were.
Criticism of the Colorado Times Recorder
“Now that is pathetic, a newspaper begging people to tell them they hate Trump.”
“Another trash ‘news site.’ Your side lost and you’re in the minority. CRY MORE LOSER.”
“So you have to advertise to find biased people? Sounds like prep for a biased article.”
“Glad to see that the Colorado media is unbiased and has no agenda against Trump!”
“Recorder isn’t real journalism, it’s propaganda”
“No, what you really want is some propaganda material to help build your radical leftist, Colorado Democratic party, dictatorship.”

We Won’t Stop Searching
Our billboard comes down at the end of the month, but we’re not giving up. We want to tell the stories of betrayed Trump voters — to help everyone understand: why did they vote for Trump? Why do they feel betrayed now? What was the tipping point? What was the biggest obstacle to coming to grips with the betrayal? Why did they vote for Trump in the first place?
