Pro-immigrant protesters, led by No Concentration Camps in Colorado, gathered at a Denver ICE office in Centennial yesterday, where over 1,200 people were detained last year alone, and then caravaned to current and future hubs in ICE’s network of jails in Colorado.
One group of protesters left from the Centennial ICE detention center and went to an unsigned building in Frederick, north of Denver, where ICE detained over 500 people last year, the youngest of whom was six years old, the oldest 71, both with no apparent criminal record. One 31-year-old man was held there for 34 days, 31 days more than allowed by ICE.

Another caravan stop, also in northern Colorado, was Hudson, where ICE has contracted with the GEO Group to run a new detention center with over 1,200 beds. If opened, it would be similar in size to the ICE jail in Aurora, also run by the GEO group, which has space for over 1,500 detainees. The proposed Hudson facility is one of six sites presented to ICE by private operators for larger-scale jails in Colorado.
The Hudson and Frederick ICE facilities are located in Colorado’s Congressional District 8 (CD-8), which is the battleground for a race — likely featuring U.S. Rep. Gabe Evans (R-CO) against either state Rep. Manny Rutinel or former state Rep. Shannon Bird — that’s widely expected to decide which party controls the U.S. House of Representatives next year.
