Every year, the Colorado Times Recorder is threatened online, attacked by officials, and dismissed as illegitimate.

And every year, especially these days, we respond by working harder to expose the truth, telling inspiring stories, and fighting back against misinformation and hate.

This year, we produced a first-of-its-kind expose of the funding and influence of the organization that’s behind a steady flow of complex ballot initiatives that aim to hoodwink a conservative agenda on Coloradans.

We exposed how Colorado’s most vulnerable Congressman, Gabe Evans (R-CO), promotes himself as a “rancher” and “beef producer” in his rural district, even though he only cares for three cows as a hobby. And we reported how he exaggerates his family history as an American Dream story.

We published a steady stream of stories from our freelancers in Washington D.C., where only one other Colorado news outlet has a reporter on the ground.

Again this year, we were the leading source of information on little-watched but hugely important school board elections across the state.

We also nurtured a growing TikTok channel, launched the Fever Swamp Review podcast, and won five Society of Professional Journalism awards, including first-place honors in “Politics News,” “Investigative Reporting,” and “Column/Op-ed.” (Here’s a bit of what we did last year — and previously.)

“Not a Real News Source”

It’s our success that ignites the attacks against us.

Heidi Ganahl, the last Republican candidate for governor, likes to say that Colorado Times Recorder is “not a real news source.”

Maybe she’s still mad that we once broke the story about her spreading the falsehood that furries were rampant in public schools “all over Colorado” and teachers were doing nothing about it.

Jeff Hunt X post, Dec. 2, 2025

Or maybe she doesn’t like our fact checks.

Most likely, though, she’s just mad that we don’t back down.

Just last week, right-wing radio host Jeff Hunt asked his followers to suggest Colorado Times Recorder stories he could submit to the Trump administration’s new “Media Offender of the Week” website.

Maybe he didn’t like that our columnist, Logan Davis, exposed Hunt’s embrace of Christian Nationalism in a column back in April.

To continue holding public figures like Ganahl and Hunt accountable, we need your help.
