Colorado’s Democratic Senators voted with mostly Republicans yesterday, refusing to support a pair of resolutions calling for a partial block on military aid to Israel.

Sens. John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet were not moved by the increasing alarm over the situation in Gaza, unlike a majority of Democrats who backed both of Sanders’ measures.

The resolutions, with the Republican majority behind them, were defeated with final votes of 73-24 and 70-27.

Neither Hickenlooper’s nor Bennet’s office responded to requests for comment.

Sanders made an impassioned plea on the Senate floor before the vote.

“Enough is enough,” he said. “Americans want this to end. They do not want to be complicit in an unfolding famine and daily civilian massacres.”

Colorado state Sen. Iman Jodeh (D-Aurora) pointed to Hickenlooper and Bennet’s failure to support Sanders’ resolutions as just more of the same strategy that lost the 2024 election for the Democrats.

“Democrats are not listening to a majority of Americans,” she said. “A Gallup poll found over 65% of Americans disapprove of Israel’s actions in Gaza. That isn’t just Democrats, that’s all Americans.”
